What are Key Stages?
Most schools in England follow the National Curriculum. This sets out the subjects that children should be taught, the standards they should reach and when assessment tests will be carried out.
The National Curriculum is organised into Key Stages:

- The Early Years covers children from ages 3 to 5 and includes Reception Year
- Key Stage 1 is made up of Year 1 and Year 2
- Key Stage 2 is made up of Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6
- Key Stage 3 covers Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9
- Key Stage 4 is made up of Year 10 and Year 11 and covers the GCSE years
- A Levels are taken in Key Stage 5
